Dozens gathered at the Pleasant Prairie Veterans Memorial in Prairie Springs Park on Sunday, November 9, for the 18th annual Veterans Day Ceremony honoring those who have served and continue to serve in the United States Armed Forces.
The event began with a presentation of colors by the Pleasant Prairie Police Department Honor Guard and the Vietnam Veterans Guard, followed by the national anthem. Village Trustee Michael Pollocoff delivered the keynote address, encouraging attendees to reflect on the ongoing service and sacrifices made by members of the military.
“It only takes a moment to think about what our servicemen and women are doing right now to renew our appreciation for their vital roles and the service they provide,” Pollocoff said. “From combat duty to providing relief in disaster-stricken areas, they face tremendous risks and make extraordinary sacrifices. To all the veterans here today, I offer my deepest respect and sincere thanks.”
The program also included the Prisoner of War and Missing in Action (POW-MIA) Table Ceremony, a three-shot volley, and the playing of “Taps” by members of the Kenosha Area Vietnam Veterans organization.
The Village of Pleasant Prairie extends appreciation to the local veterans’ groups, Village staff, and community members who helped organize and participate in the ceremony, including Pleasant Prairie VFW Post 7308, the Kenosha Area Vietnam Veterans, the Pleasant Prairie Police Department Honor Guard, and American Legion Paul Herrick Post 21. Appreciation is also extended to area businesses, Kwik Trip, Culver’s, and Paielli’s Bakery, for providing refreshments for attendees.
