It shall be unlawful for any peddler, canvasser, solicitors and transient merchant to engage in sales or solicitations within the Village without being registered under Village Municipal Code Chapter 254.
A license must be obtained from the Village Clerk before any transient merchant goes door to door. License fee is $30.00 per applicant which includes the fee for a police check. License fee must be paid prior to processing the application. If any transient merchant is not a resident of Kenosha County or whose place of business is located outside of the State of Wisconsin, a surety bond in the amount of $500.00 must be provided with the application.
If a license is issued, the license must be on the person. A peddler, canvasser, solicitor or transient merchant shall be prohibited from calling at any dwelling or other place between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. except by appointment. Call the Police Department if an unlicensed person is peddling or soliciting at your residence.
Charitable Organizations must provide proof to the Village Clerk that the organization is registered under Wis. Stats. §202.22before going door-to-door. Charitable Organizations are exempt from obtaining a license. Pursuant to Wis. Stats. §202.11, Charitable Organization are defined as a benevolent, educational, philanthropic, humane, scientific, patriotic, social welfare or advocacy, public health, environmental conservation, civic, or other eleemosynary objective.
