Union Pacific Railroad Opens Green Bay Road Crossing
Posted on 11/19/2021
The Union Pacific Railroad has reopened the crossing on State Trunk Highway 31 (Green Bay Road). Maintenance crews remained on schedule throughout the construction period. As a result, they were able to reopen Green Bay Road to all traffic at 10:00 a.m. on November 19, 2021.

"We appreciate all the commuters that utilized the listed detour routes during the Union Pacific crossing closure," said Pleasant Prairie Police Chief David Smetana. "The closure caused the traveling public and business commuters that use Green Bay Road daily some inconveniences; however, coordination amongst travelers in the area kept congestion to a minimum."

The railroad maintenance at the crossing on Green Bay Road, located 0.6 mile south of State Trunk Highway 50 (STH 50), began on Monday, November 15, 2021. Maintenance crews worked on the railroad crossing between Bain Station Road and 79th Street for approximately five days. Favorable weather conditions helped keep the project on schedule. All lanes are currently open in each direction.

"The railroad crossing in that section of road needed repair," explained John Steinbrink Jr., Director of Public Works. "It is good to see the crossing improvements completed and have the road reopened to the community."
