Village staff presented the proposed 2025 General Government Budget to the Village Board during the October 28 meeting. The presentation outlined revenues and expenses for operating, capital, and debt service, along with the projected impact on the Village’s tax levy.
The 2025 budget proposes increasing the tax levy from $21,048,868 in 2024 to $21,299,133, an increase of $250,265 or 1.2 percent. This adjustment will have an effect on property tax bills. The Village portion of the property tax on a median-valued home, now $373,300, up from $322,500 in 2024, will increase by approximately $89. These funds will support essential services, including fire & rescue, police, community development, road improvements, and snow plowing.
The proposed 2025 operating budget accounts for inflationary increases across most departments and includes two new full-time positions: an Executive Director of Parks and Recreation and a Human Resource Generalist. Recurring decision packages cover the costs of new Information Technology software subscriptions and operating expenses for the newly constructed public safety buildings. The budget also allocates $499,295 for one-time expenses, including the replacement of 45 Taser devices for the Police Department.
Proposed capital investments include:
- $3.7 million for road improvements
- $1.6 million for parking lot resurfacing
- $1.2 million for a replacement fire engine
- $465,767 for a new ambulance
- $388,707 for squad car replacements
These additional projects are planned to be funded with impact fees:
- $450,000 for a new community splash pad
- $185,000 for pickleball courts
- $200,000 for a vehicle car wash at the Prange Municipal Building
A public hearing to adopt the 2025 budget and property tax levy, covering all operating, capital, and debt service expenses, is scheduled for Monday, November 25, at 6:00 p.m. in the Village Hall Auditorium at 9915 39th Avenue.
